WHERE IS YOUR FAMILY?

Posted by: Rev. Charles King on Sun Jan 24 2010

The term 'family' has assumed varied and new definitions that would have caused our forefathers to shiver.

The dawn of the new morality has caused a systemic shift from the traditional man, woman and child/ren family structure to incorporate same sex couples and gay/bisexual/lesbian families and this has left many Christians and well-meaning people confused and bewildered as to the meaning of 'family.' Their sense of bewilderment is not only restricted to the concept of family but to other areas such as morality, right, wrong, truth, the place of sex, discipline of children versus abuse, and the list goes on. We are more comfortable towing the lines of 'relativism' and compromise in order to be politically correct and to maintain our sanity and place in society instead of taking a definite stance as our forebears did. We know we

will be isolated and branded for taking a stance. Jesus never called us to a comfortable life because his words were 'the world will hate you on account of me!' Again, 'you are in the world but not of the world.' Those words are hardly preached these days, they are hardly read and if they are explained, the necessary depth the passages demand are not revealed.

Jesus is looking for people who will STAND up for him today! Are you one of them? The family will forever be the instrument God ordained for propagation, instilling of values, preservation of the faith, teaching and disciplining, safety and security and nurture. God will not take kindly any parent who abdicates these responsibilities and turns them over to schools, gangs, fraternities and even the church. Isn't is a paradox how parents fail to maintain their families but can use all their life savings to bail their kids when they get caught up with the law? Isn't it a paradox how an absentee spouse rises to claim rights for kids he/she never saw taking those important first steps? Isn't it sad that some kids never saw their parents except when those parents stand with cuffs or lay in a box, cold, stiff and lifeless? How will the safety and sanity of future generations be secured if young girls see their moms running around with different men, being dropped off with a different car, depositing checks with different names and continuously receiving birth certificates with kids bearing different last names?

The task is great, but it can't be fought standing; the more we stand, the more we'll fall in the presence of life's woes and challenges to our families. The battle can be fought only on our knees. The more we stay on our knees, the more we can stand up to the world and its challenges.

WHERE IS  YOUR FAMILY?  Stay praying and see what marvelous things God will do in our world and in our families.
