The Central District of the Eastern PA Conference presented "Bishop's Day on the District" on Wednesday, November 10th at Mother African Zoar United Methodist Church.  Hosted by the North Philadelphia Cluster, the day began with a gathering of clergy for a luncheon, devotions and time with the bishop and question and answer session.

The evening featured a reception for Laity followed by devotions led by District Superintendent Rev. Philip Ponce.  The highlight of the evening program was the introduction of Bishop Marcus Matthews who related a heartwarming personal biography.  Bishop Matthews also facilitated a question and answer session in which he gave updates on conference business. 

Many churches in the district were represented at this event which provided a unique opportunity to interact with our new bishop and district superintendent.

Everyone is invited to come to Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter Sunday worship services.
Camphor will soon celebrate Palm Sunday service at the beginning of Holy Week and the extraordinary resurrection of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ on Easter Sunday.  Everyone is also cordially invited to our special Tinebrae service on Maundy Thursday, April 5th at 7 PM at Camphor and participate in a joint Good Friday service at Vine Memorial Baptist Church, 5600 W. Girard Ave., Phila., on April 6th, 12 noon to 3 PM. We encourage you to bring family and friends to these services and particularly on Easter Sunday morning at 11 am when both the Senior Choir and the Gospel Chorus will lead us in special music.  After the service there will be Easter candy for the children and a fellowship hour hosted by the Evangelism Committee and the Adult Fellowship.  This will be a perfect ocassion to "come home" and reaffirm membership at Camphor or become a new member of the body of Christ.  For more information or any questions, please call Rev. His ministry will focus on children, youth and young adults.
 Rev. David W. Brown, an Ordained Deacon, was appointed by Bishop Marcus Matthews as Associate Pastor of Camphor effective July 1, 2006.  A Camphor prodigy, Rev. Brown, son of Mr and Mrs. Reese Brown, Jr. and grandson of Mrs. Bertha Bell, has been serving the church in various capacities his entire life.  In his capacity as Associate Pastor, a part-time position of 10 hours per week, Rev. Brown's ministry will primarily focus on children, youth and young adults. His responsibilities will include providing leadership to the church and community in the areas of fundraising to support ministries and assisting Rev. Rev.  Lonnie Herndon, Pastor of the Church of Christian Compassion, Philadelphia, PA, was the guest preacher at the Annual Trustee Day held on Sunday, September 10. 2006 during the 11 AM worship service. A repast followed the service and was enjoyed by all.
